Hawkeyes Earn Series Sweep With Win Over Zeeland West

The Hamilton Hawkeyes defeated the Zeeland West Dux 11-1 Thursday on the road to earn a series sweep.  Hamilton scored two runs in the top of the 1st inning.  Jared Overbeek led off with a walk on a 7 pitch at bat.  Elijah Walker followed with a solid single.  Overbeek later scored on a Sacrifice Fly by Ethan Buresh and Walker scored on a wild pitch.  The Dux got one run back on a two-out error off the bat of Logan Thimm and a double off the bat of Ben Parker.  Hamilton added a run in the 3rd when Gerrit Eding led off with a walk.  He then stole second and moved up to third on a ground ball to the right side of the infield by Grant Wolfram.  Sean Thompson grounded to the shortstop to plate Eding and give the Hawkeyes their 3rd run.  Hamilton broke the game open in the 4th inning with 7 runs.  With one out Wolfram and Thompson both reached on errors.  Hayden Smith singled to drive in Wolfram.  Overbeek singled to load the bases and then Walker singled to score Thompson.  Tommy Schreur reached on another Dux error which allowed Justin Overhiser who was courtesy running for Smith and Overbeek to score the Hawkeyes third and fourth runs of the inning.  Ethan Buresh followed with a single to load the bases again and then Cole Carlson doubled to score Walker and Schreur.  Eding singled to drive in Buresh for the seventh and final run of the inning.  The Hawkeyes scored their last run in the 6th when Heath Dannenberg drew a bases loaded walk to score Dylan Buresh.  Smith was able to hold Zeeland West scoreless in the bottom of the 6th which resulted in the final score of 11-1.  The Hawkeyes now have an overall record of 8-7 and an OK Green record of 6-5.
