In the first game, Grant Wolfram got the start and 4 of his first 6 outs were via a strikeout.  Meanwhile the Hawkeye offense was busy scoring 4 runs in their first two innings.  Elijah Walker opened the first with a single, Tommy Schreur had an infield single, Ethan Buresh walked after fouling off several pitches, and then Sean Thompson hit a sacrifice fly to score Walker.  In the top of the second, Justin Genther led off with a double and scored on a one out single by Walker.  With two outs Ethan Buresh hit a double that plated both Walker and courtesy runner Gerrit Eding.  The Hawkeyes may have took their foot off the gas a little and the Dutch made them pay in the bottom of the third inning by scoring 4 runs and tying up the score at 4 runs apiece.  In the inning the Dutch had 4 hits including 2 doubles.  Ethan Buresh took over on the mound for the Hawkeyes in the 5th inning.  The Dutch got their leadoff man to third base, but a block of a ball in the dirt and tag at home by catcher Hayden Smith gave Holland their first out.  Later in the inning Smith made a perfect throw to second to catch a runner stealing.  The two clutch plays helped keep Holland from taking the lead.  In the seventh the Dutch had two runners on with only one out before Ethan Buresh struck out two batters to end the inning.  Hamilton finally broke through with 6 runs in the 8th inning to effectively end the game.  Brady Mudd had a key single to drive in the go-ahead run, and Gerrit Eding had a double for 2 RBI’s.  Ethan Buresh picked up the win to bring his record to 2-0.  He only allowed one hit in his 4 innings of work.

In the second game, the Hawkeyes scored 4 runs apiece in the 1st and 4th innings, and Hayden Smith scattered 3 hits in the darkness shortened 5-inning game.  Eding got things started in the 1st with a double.  He was followed by an RBI single by Schreur, single by Buresh, walk by Thompson, and an RBI single by Genther.  The fourth run of the inning was scored on a fielders choice put in play by Wolfram.  In the fourth inning Wolfram got things started with a single.  Mudd and Overbeek followed with singles of their own, and then with two outs Eding hit a bases clearing double. Tommy Schreur plated the fourth run of the inning with a solid single.  Due to darkness, the game was called after the 5th inning.  The Hawkeyes were leading 8-1 at that point.  Smith allowed only 3 hits and got his first Varsity win.  For the day Gerrit Eding was 3 for 5 with two doubles and 5 RBI’s and Tommy Schreur was 4 for 8.

Hamilton will next be in action on Thursday with a home game against the Dutch.  Game time is slated for 4:15 pm.  The Hawkeyes will be hosting the Hamilton Invitational on Saturday.  Their first game will be against Buchanan High School at 10:00.  The other teams in the Tournament are Sparta and Otsego High Schools.
